The Sunday School & Discipleship Ministries Board's goal is to serve the local church
by:
- providing training opportunities designed to equip local church leaders in
the area of Sunday School and small group ministries.
- providing networking opportunities to connect local churches.
- providing a comprehensive lay leader training program to assist the local
church in raising the level of leadership for the local church.
- providing district-wide events and fellowship opportunities for men's,
women's and family ministries.

Jim Sheire is an adult Bible class leader at Glendale Nazarene Church, and last
summer he told me about a challenge at his church that turned into a celebration. I
asked him to tell you about it in his own words:
I have been teaching an adult Sunday school class since December of last year called
"The Books of the Bible." Over the first 5 months of the year, attendance in the class
grew from 10 people to 21 on the attendance roll, with an average of 18 per week.
Then Pastor Carla (Durby) announced she was starting 3 new adult Sunday School
classes. I figured attendance in our class would drop to around 5 or 6 people, but that
is not what happened at all. While the number of people attending my class did go
down, it did not drop as low as I thought it might. What happened instead, is the total
number of people attending our Sunday School classes doubled. We are now
averaging 10 people in each of the other 3 special interest classes and attendance for
"Books of the Bible" last week was 28.
This is an exciting example of how God multiplies our efforts! Contrary to what we
might want to think, instead of “dividing” the numbers of our learners, offering new
opportunities demonstrates that we truly value discipleship classes. There is
something exciting happening in God’s kingdom—blessings on your obedient and
faithful efforts!
